Sew Sweetness Sloan Travel Bag

2016-03-15 14.42.31 (1)

I needed a super big bag to hold all of my church stuff, and the Sloan Bag by Sew Sweetness looked very roomy and adorable too so I settled on that one.

I have been buying a lot of fabric at Walmart of all places! But we got a Super Walmart in our little rural area almost two months ago and compared to what we had before in my town, the fabric selection at Walmart is incredible. It’s all about perspective.

So all of the fabric for this bag came from Walmart.

I love all of the pockets in this bag: There are two zippered interior pockets plus two side interior pockets, and then there are two exterior pockets (with snaps!) and a big front zippered pocket.

Plus there is a cute little key strap.

You can see in that last picture the dreadful mistake I made-I accidentally sewed the top zipper in upside down! It was terrible! I misunderstood one step in the directions and that was the result. I didn’t realize it until I had already attached the lining to the bag and turned the bag right side out, and I just couldn’t bear at that point to take it apart to fix it. Besides, it reminds me that imperfect things can still be awesome, because I love this bag anyway.

Parisian Top And A Bendy Bag

I have two recent makes to put up here.

The first is another Parisian Top for me.

I like this pattern and I love the collar. I got the fabric from Mood awhile ago. I bought it thinking I’d make a t-shirt for Ezra with it, but it was too drapey for a boy’s t-shirt.

Then, I made the last bag in my Craftsy class I talked about in my last post. This one is the Bendy bag.

It was more fussy than the other bags and while I was making it I was thinking it was a pain, but I like how cute it is so I guess it was worth it ha ha.

I bound all the seams since they are exposed.

I gave Bendy to my mom for Christmas!

Zip It Up Craftsy Class

2015-12-14 19.17.43

I bought some Craftsy classes during their Black Friday sale and one of the classes I got is called Zip It Up: Easy Techniques for Zippered Bags. I’ve made it through the first two bags in the class and I have one more to go.

So far I’m loving it! I’ve made a few. The Nickita bag (the brick looking bag) is pretty cute and useful.

Ezra saw the first one I finished and begged me to make him one for his stuffed owl. So I dug around for some boy looking fabric and made him one.

Swoops in his bag.

Swoops in his bag.

The only thing I didn’t like is that the class said the bags were lined, but they’re not fully lined. The raw edges show and I wasn’t smart enough to figure that out until it was too late to fix it in my first bag. But I’ve just been binding the seams in my other bags and I think that looks good.

Fabric Basket

2015-11-21 19.00.40

I made this little basket using this tutorial.

It was for a baby shower.

I was going to make the larger size, but I might have accidentally got the sides and the top and bottom mixed up and sewed down the wrong sides. I wasn’t going to pick all those stitches out of all the layers of fabric and batting and fleece, so I just chopped it down and made a smaller basket.

Sewing Sabbatical, Plus Seth’s Jeans

Well, I took quite a long break from this blog because I took quite a long break from sewing.

I tend to get very obsessed with things and so last Spring I felt like sewing was kinda taking over my life. Not even that I was spending all day sewing, but that so much of my energy was going into it-planning projects, picking out fabric, reading sewing blogs…it all adds up. My life picked up and got busier than ever and so I decided to stop sewing for awhile because I just couldn’t keep up with everything.

I figured I would start again when I felt like it. I assumed that would happen in a couple of weeks, but it didn’t! I think I burned myself out. We basically didn’t buy any clothes at all for two and a half years because I made them all, for our family of 5. My sewing had become like a job!

Then a couple of weeks ago I was with a friend who was talking about her Christmas present sewing projects. While I was talking to her, I thought, sewing sounds fun. So I went home and picked out a pattern and some fabric I had on a shelf and started sewing.

I’m enjoying it again, with plans to be a moderate home sewer! No more making all of everyone’s clothes.

It’s a good think I decided to pick it back up, because we have looked high and low for some pants that will fit Seth, but we just can’t find any. So of course my first project back at it was a pair of pants for Seth.

I have to say that my project pictures won’t be anything fancy. I sold my camera last Spring and am using my phone camera now. Plus, it’s cold and snowy so there’s no way I’m taking any pictures outside right now! This is mostly so I have a record of my projects.

I made him more Small Fry Skinny jeans-the biggest size with some inches added to the inseams and outseams. Plus an elastic waistband because that’s what fits his body the best.

The fabric is Ralph Lauren stretch denim from Mood.

Archer #2, Plus Another Pair of Sunny Day Shorts

wpid2147-20150603-190534.jpg

I made another Archer, and it only took me 5 months to do it! I bought the fabric to make another one in February. Since it’s now June I decided to make it short sleeved.

wpid2152-20150603-190544.jpgI widened the sleeve a little for the short sleeves, and I bound the bottom of the sleeves.

I changed the pocket on this one to a dainty little thing. The original pockets are too overwhelming to me.

I bought this fabric at Mood, and it is soooo lightweight that it started coming apart in a few places (I’m sure I should have been using some ultra thin sewing machine needles. The smallest I had were size 80, so I used those). I’m afraid the shirt won’t last long. If it doesn’t I’ll be sad because since the fabric was so hard to work with it took forever to make this shirt.

I also made Ezra a pair of Sunny Day shorts, just like I recently did for his brothers. It feels summery out there, finally!  Definitely shorts weather. We’re going camping tomorrow to enjoy it. Ok…camping…in a cabin. But still. It will be fun!
